From April 13 to 20, an exhibition called “Decorations-art” was held in the bomb shelter of the Odesa National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet. Its opening was connected with the premiere of the documentary play “Bomb Vault: Is it possible to survive?”. The event was attended by theater critics, cultural figures, officials, as well as ambassadors of friendly countries.
“Since the beginning of the theater in Ancient Greece, literature has been written for staging, music is created as an accompaniment, and paintings and sculptures become theatrical scenery,” says Andrii Liubov, the curator of the event.
Therefore, the exhibition aimed to acquaint the viewer with how art objects can be used in the design of theatrical productions. The visitor had the opportunity to enjoy both classical paintings by folk artists of Ukraine and modern installations, the concept of which corresponds to the spirit of the times. Some of the works have already taken part as scenery in a theatrical performance, and some will be used in future performances. The use of works of art in the theater gives realism to staged scenes, promotes the creativity of Ukrainian artists and increases the value of art objects. In this way, synergy is achieved as a result of the combination of different types of arts and the expansion of the interested audience.
Also, the organization of the exhibition in the bomb shelter contributes to the improvement of the psychological state of people forced to go down to the shelter during air raids. It emphasizes the resilience of the Ukrainian people in the face of adversity and their commitment to preserving and popularizing their cultural heritage. And finally, it is a testimony of the power of art, which can improve the quality of life in critical times.
The exhibition featured works by Ukrainian artists: V. Lokatir, V. Khokhlenko, S. Bogolyubov, S. Konyakhin, A. Liubov, S. Kruzhkov, Y. Kislichenko, S. Kislichenko, N. Moskvicheva.
