On October 1, 2021, a round table “Odesa City of Arts” was held in the hall of the Kyiv District Administration. The head of the culture department, Tatiana Markova, opened the conference and promised the artists and patrons support from the city. “Public art is art for an unprepared viewer, in places not intended for this,” the listeners learned during the lecture held by art engineer Andrii Lyubov. After an overview of world public art trends, a conference was held with the participation of officials, architects and artists. “Odesa – the city of arts” – the participants discussed how to fill the areas remote from the city center with art objects and, together with the residents, recreate the new history of the city, thereby motivating elite tourists to come to Odessa.

1% for art is a program that has been active in the USA and many European countries for a long time. Its essence is that this 1% is allocated from the house construction estimate for the installation of public art objects. “If you can see a work of art from the windows, the price per square meter increases.” The organization of cultural space will not only benefit developers, but also have a positive impact on residents and the perception of the city as a whole.

On the square in front of the administration, passers-by looked at a kinetic horseman, a composition of three sculptures “Adventures of Tarakutska”, a red panther, and ceramic works of art. The most active ones took part in the fundraising performance for the filming of the film “Odesa – the City of Arts” and after the speech they expressed their thoughts on the “Pedestal” sculpture.
At the end of the event, the head of the administration, Volodymyr Sushkov, wished the sculptors to work without rest and expressed hope for the cultural filling of all the sleeping areas of Odessa.
