Sunny heart
– the first art object in Ukraine installed on a pier. It is located at the 13th station of the Great Fountain in Odesa. The sculpture weighs 800 kilograms.
The artwork is a composition of two intertwined metal hearts. Inside them, the words “love” and “peace” are engraved in twenty different languages. In addition, viewers are invited to find another hidden word among the inscriptions — which one exactly remains the artist’s secret.
The art object was installed on April 23, 2017. During the installation, a capsule containing a book of short stories by Andriy Liubov titled “Aloha” and a heart-shaped ornament was placed inside the base. The official unveiling of the sculpture took place on May 19.
The realization of the composition’s concept was assisted by Odesa sculptor Mykhailo Reva, who provided technical support for the art object.
The event organizers invited a young couple to the opening and arranged a real wedding ceremony. After the formal registration, the newlyweds went to the sculpture and tossed coins through the intertwined hearts.
Now, this tradition is upheld by other young couples as well.
The installation of the sculpture and its popularity among residents and visitors became a reason for the improvement of the surrounding area. In December 2017, the traverse on which the sculpture was installed was renovated.
We hope that the “Sun Heart,” just like in the story, will truly become — or has already become — the element that will spark cultural transformations in Odesa.
