The employees of the Odessa Regional Library for Youth named after V.V. Maiakovskyi and creative association Art workshop «Bloom» held a performance in support of reading on October 20 at 10:00 a.m. in the 9 Akademika Korolova Street (near the Kyivskyi District Administration of the Odessa City Council).
One of the librarians, sitting in a rocking chair on the art object «Piedestal», was reading a Ukrainian book for an hour. At the same time, the librarian was surrounded by the books, which can be found at the Regional Library named after Maiakovskyi.
Sculptor Andrii Liubov, the author of the performance idea, explained his idea in the following way: «Reading is the best way to develop imaginative thinking and a reader will always be interesting to their interlocutors. However, reading often loses out to new entertainment like video games and others at the moment. So I wanted to make such an event that will remind all viewers and passers-by how important and great it is to read».
«Chytanka» is a performance meant to remind to residents of the city about the importance of reading as well as to draw attention to libraries. The authors hope that the performance will make libraries more popular among Odessa residents. Moreover, in quarantine conditions there is more time that you can – and even need – spend at reading.
